Risk Assesment

This is the risk assessment that we created in one of our lessons, we had to make this before we went out to film to identify any potential hazards and what safety precautions we would take to keep ourselves safe.

Production Diary 20

Day 20: 30/11/2011

Today we went off to Hampstead Heath, Parliament Hill to start filming. The filming seemed to go really well and we got plenty of footage that we are going to take back to school to edit.

Production Diary 19

Day 19: 29/11/2011

In the lesson today we all sat round in a group and planned the shots we were going to film. We decided we would film the view of London for about an hour and then after quickly film some of the character on the bench drunk. We also had an idea of filming him falling over and stubling around, as well as this we videoed the character looking over a bridge with a bottle of beer and then dropping it in the river.

Voice Over

Parliament Hill

This is the map of the park we are going to be filming one of our scenes. We found a photo like this so we have a rough idea of where to head for, we want to hopefully go to the bit of green up the hill from the runnining track. Using this we hopefully give us some sense of direction to where we should be heading.

Production Diary 18

Day 18: 24/11/2011

Today we decided to begin filming our music video, we had to film in rush hour so I went and met Sarah reasonable early. We had to try and film with her holding the camera behind me making it look as if it was 1st person. When we got back to school we looked at some of our footage and realised that the way it had been filmed didn't work that well so we were going to need to try a different method. Me and Sarah then looked at a couple of different ways to film first person.
We also decided that our story needed some changing so we sat down and brainstormed a few ideas which we would add to our video. Briefly this is what we decided on doing:
-Begins with a shot of a man sitting on the bench at the top of Parliament Hill holding an empty bottle of alcohol. (This will probably be the only time you see the character)
-The story then rewinds back to the morning with the sound of an alarm going off (the camera has now changed to first person). The camera giving the feel to the audience it is his eyes looks at the clock to reviel the time and then we see a hand turn the alarm off. The alarm then goes off again showing the audience he has fallen asleep and now is late for work.
-He runs down the stairs still putting some clothes on and we then see his wife who starts shouting at him and throws him some letters showing they haven't paid bills and are in debt. The character doesn't have the time to talk so walks straight passed her and out the door.
-He gets in his car and begins his journey to work in which he spills tea down his shirt and also gets stuck in traffic.
-When his at work an email comes up on his computer from the boss telling him to get in his office, when he goes in his office he gets fired from his job.
- As he walks out the work building he meets his wife in a nearby cafe in whcih she passes him the wedding ring and indicates she wants a divorce.
-He walks into a liquor store where things then change for him as he bus a bottle of alcohol, things then change within the filming as we get straight cuts of him falling over, getting mugged, being sick etc.
-The last shot is then the same one as the first.

Production Diary 17

Day 17: 23/11/2011

Due to the reason we weren't 100% sure with our idea we decided to try and look at some current music videos that had been shot in 1st person for some ideas and inspirtation. The video we found very useful for ideas was Cinnamon Chasers- Luv Deluxe.

After watching the video we decided that we are going to go into more detail about the story and use quicker cuts and graphic matches, different than what we were originally thinking. We also decided to pack the video with a bit more action than previously thought of, this would keep the audience more entertained and interested but it will make them watch it more as on the first or even second time there will still be things going on that they might not of originally seen.

When we decided most of it was going to be filmed in first person we had to try and find a way to hold the camera to make it look like it was being viewed out of the persons eyes. We found and tried some different ideas, one being straping it to the side of my head but it wasn't very stable and the camera kept falling off. Luckily we found a video someone had made on youtube which we decided to use.

This was a picture of us trying trying our own way of making a first person POV camera. Unfortunately it didn't work very well so we had to re think it.

We found this video which when we tried the idea out it worked really well.

Production Diary 16

Day 16: 22/11/2011

After failing to film on the 18th we decided on the 30th of November, due to the reason the teachers were on strike and we didn't have many lessons. We arranged when we were going to meet which was at Liverpool Street at 11:30. We also looked at the weather forecast for that day and the times we would be there throughout the filming period.

When we looked at the times we found that a period of time we would be filming on would be good weather, however at 3:20PM it would start to rain so we needed to stick to the time accurately.

Production Diary 15

Day 15: 18/11/2011

Today was a bit of a failure for the filming, we were meant to go filming at Parliament Hill but we didn't end up going in the end due to several reasons one being some people had made committments for other things. As well as this the group weren't that confident on the idea we came up with which was another reason we decided not to film.

Learning and Progress Chart

This lesson we had to create a progress review, this involved making a table and answering a few questions on what we had already done on the course.

Assignment of work
How well I did on this?
What I learnt that will be useful for my music video
Video presentation of music video

I felt I did ok on this piece of work however I felt I could have gone into more depth when analysing it.
How to briefly analyse a music video using the basic headings.
Video analysis of 2 music videos
I felt I did well on this; there were a couple improvements I had to make but once identified I made them.
Viewing and identifying the differences between 2 different genres of music and their videos, and analysing them in depth.
Star image/development
I believe I did well on this task; I contributed a lot of time to this piece of work and did a lot of research on the star.
I learnt how stars image and there videos change over a period of time.
Institutions big budget/small budget
I think I did well on this task however I feel I could have possibly done a bit more research and more depth.
I learnt the difference between a small and big budget music video but also the differences and what can be achieved with only a small budget.
3 CD cover analysis

What music means to me
I thought I did well but could have possibly written about some of the videos in more depth.
I learnt how the taste in music and the different types of music I like and how they have changed within time.
The Britney experience
For the Britney experience I believe I did really well at this. I believe we need to concentrate on the time with have but I overall I felt I did well at this task.
I learnt a lot on this task including editing, camera shots/angles, time and how it is important to plan your time well. I also learnt how long it can take to film just part of a music video.
Song Choice
I feel I did really well at this task; I managed to come up with several different songs ranging from a variety of different genres.
I learnt about what type of music was right for the type of music video we are going to create.
Watching and analysing music videos
Again I felt I did well on this task, I analysed 3 videos in decent depth. However to improve I could have wrote down more of the videos we analysed
I learnt a lot on this task about what some of the previous students music videos were like and some ideas on what to and not to do for our music video.
Storyboard-
Didn’t have much input on the drawing side of the storyboard but for the planning of shots etc I made a big contribution to it and also felt I did well on this task.
Planning, reality check, planning everything
Editing-

Cutting, splitting, copy and paste, capturing, two audios
Website
Felt I did really well on this task doing the majority off of it. Received some positive feedback from the website as well.
Creating a website using moon fruit

What are your strongest areas of skill and understanding?I feel one of my strongest skills is completing the set work and handing it in on time for the deadline. I also feel I have a good understanding of the given work and managed to do it at a decent standard. As well as this I believe I work very well in my group and put forward good ideas. I also felt I pick things up really well an example being the editing.

What are the areas that you need to improve most?Something I feel I need to improve is double checking my work, I have received pieces of work after it being checked with comments saying I need to double check spelling, and if it makes sense etc. To improve in the filming I feel I need to get more involved in front of the camera.

What are the areas you need most help?I don’t feel there is an area I need most help, the only thing I feel I need help on is getting more involved with the filming of the video rather than just sticking to editing.

Rich Mix Media Trip

Today we had a school trip to Rich Mix in Bethnal Green for a presentation about our music videos. I learnt that even though we don't have hardly any money to use for our video we can still download free editing software and use the camera in a way that would still make a video effective. I also learnt that the video doesn't necessarily have to mean anything or tell a story it can be simple and still be good, this gave me a few more ideas on what we could do to our music video to perhaps make it easier to film but make it more effective. We met a producer who has worked with some famous aritsts such as Olly Murs, Willey and Rizzle Kicks and created the video for some of their songs, he spoke to us and answered some of our questions which gave us some valuable advice and ideas on what we could do.

This is an example of one of the video they made:

Day 14: 15/11/2011
This lesson we looked up the times at which the sun sets, using these times we could plan when we need to be there and how long we need to shoot our time lapse for. After a discussion about the time lapse, conidering we only have 90 minutes of tape we need to shoot 2 minutes of footage then leave 5 minutes and repeat.

Day 13: 09/11/2011

Today's lesson Sarah wasn't in so me and Mike finished the shooting risk assessment task in which we looked at all the potential risks involved when filming our video and how we would reduce the risk level. It also included other bits we had to fill in like locations, protective clothing, nearest 24 hour hospital, nearest telephone etc. Once we completed this task when then started on the the Preliminary Shooting Schedule.

Day 12: 08/11/2011

This lesson I managed to finish off the questionnaire in which we are going to send off to a range of different people and then use the feedback to make any adjustments to our music video. As well as this Sarah finished off the voice over for the storyboard. Mike started on the presenation for the music genre in which we are going to try and finish by next lesson.

How do you consume music?

How do you consume music?
There are a few different ways in which I consume music; I will occasionally buy the artists CD/Album if I really like them. However a lot of the time if I’m just after getting a single then I will use YouTube convertor or on the rare occasion download it from Itunes. The final way I might consume music is copying it from other peoples Itunes and then transferring it on to mine.

When? do you have a daily music routine? Is some music more suitable at a certain time of day than another?
I don’t really have a specific routine when I listen to music but there are definitely certain times in the day when I am listening to it for example in the morning walking to school, doing work, when I’m in the car. Other times I might listen to music depending on the mood I am in as well.

Where? clubs, bedroom, gigs, car?
There are many different places I listen to music: outside when walking or running, in the car when I’m driving somewhere, if I go out to a bar/club, in my room, festivals, loads of different places in which I would listen to music.

Who with? do you share your music or is it an individual experience?
I would either listen to music on my own or with a group of friends, again it depends where or what I’m doing so for example if I’m walking somewhere or in the car on my own it would be an individual experience whereas if I was with a group of friends e.g. at a festival then I’m obviously going to be sharing the music.

How? radio, computer, ipod, tv, live, dancing, homework, getting ready ie doing other things - background wallpaper
Again there are several different places in which I listen to music the main one comes from my ipod or on the radio. On certain occasions I will go and see someone perform live and also listen to music being played at work and things like that.

Why? What are the pleasures associated with music consumption? What does it offer the audience and what needs does it gratify?
I listen to music for different reasons when I’m on my own I will listen to it so I’m not bored and it’s something to listen to as a form of companionship. Also if I was to go out I would always listen to music when getting ready this does get me in a mood to go out, wake me up or just put me in a better mood to go out. There are definitely other occasions in which I will listen to music this could include cheering me up, getting me in a better mood or just because I’m in the mood to listen to something whilst doing something else e.g. whilst at work or writing up a piece of homework etc.

Day 11: 21/10/2011
This lesson we finally managed to record our voice over for our storyboard, we all read a section of the script out and then when we got back into the media room we uploaded it onto Adobe Premier Pro (the software we use for editing). There were a couple of things in the recording that needed to be cropped/cut for example a cough. When we uploaded it we needed to try and synch it so it fitted with the song and the storyboard, this involved us having to cut bits and speed things up or slow them down. As well as this our voice over was much longer than our shots we had to create a title to last a few seconds in order to take up a bit of time.

Day 10: 18/10/2011

Today Sarah and Mike continued with the storyboard and editing it to fit the music, however we encountered a problem when doing it. The storyboard and music all fitted quite well apart from we still had some music left over and no scenes left, this meant we had to draw up a couple more scenes to fit into the end of the music video. Sarah decided that we are going to add a few performance shots towards the end of the video. Whilst they did that I wrote the script for the voice over and managed to finish it by the end of the lesson. The voice over basically describes the scene and informs the viewer of things that can't be seen this will also include why we have done this and the reasons for it.

Production Diary 9

Day 9: 12/10/2011

Managed to finally finish off the website today, we created a website for our artist on a website maker called moonfruit. We chose this site as it was different to others and we felt it had somne really good features that could make our website more unique and better than other peoples.

Bellow is a print screen of the home page, it has a few pictures of Hugo performing and also has the Atlantic Records logo. Unfortunately some of it had to be cropped but usually on the website it wouldn't be like that.

We also have other links to different pages on our site these include: rates in which displays venues, dates and prices of things, a contact page, a login page so in order to buy things and get more information you have to become a memeber, and a photo gallery.

Day 8: 07/10/2011

Today we created a twitter acount for our star "Hugo" we added a profile picture of our artist, we also sent several posts to some of the famous stars we are following one being Ed Sheeran with the hope of getting a retweet. We have only got a few followers at the moment but the account has only been up for a few hours.

Whilst I was creating the twitter page Sarah and Mike were working on the storyboards, Mike has done most of the drawings for it but Sarah also did a few of them to help him out. Once all the storyboards were created Sarah done a video recording of the storyboards in which is going to be edited and then added to the music we are going to be using. By doing this we get an idea if the story/clips goe with the music but we might also think of some more ideas when we actually see what it would look like as a storyboard . As well as this we also found one of the locations we are going to film, we have decided on using Parliament Hill Hampstead Heath, this has a huge field on a hill with a bench that overlooks London.

Production Diary 7

Day 7: 04/10/2011

Today we began our storyboard, we used a bit of paper divided into two to draw the image of the shot we were going to use. Underneath the image we had several different headings like what type of shot and setting etc. Mike did most of the drawing whilst me and Sarah were planning out the storyboards and what images we were going to be drawn. We only managed to draw about 4 or 5 images but we now know all the pictures that need to be drawn and the order they are going to be for the storyboard.

Final Video Concept

The video begins with the view of a man on top of a hill at sunset sitting on a bench holding a whisky bottle, he unscrews the cap of the bottle, the camera zooms into his watch, the camera then pans up to the horizon. there is then a fast forwarded shot of the horizon which shows the sun getting higher in the sky and turning to morning.From here onwards the video is shot in the first person;
there is then a straight cut to view of the ceiling, with half seconds of black to simulate blinking. the camera then turns to show a view of the alarm clock (showing that it is the same day), a hand reaches out and turns off the alarm. both hands cover the screen and it fades from black to a shot of a woman across the table.
she pushes forward a piece of paper and a pen, the camera pans down and zooms in on the word DIVORCE PAPERS at the top. The camera pans up and the woman mouths the words "im sorry but it isnt working out", a hand extends towards her, she pushes back her chair, she then mouths the words "its too late for that, im sorry", she places her ring on the table and the camera follows her to the door, it pans back to the table and the ring, the hand then picks up the pen, the camera pans down to the bottom of the piece of paper and he signs his name.
another shot of a signature on a piece of paper is faded in as the other fades out (graphic match). The camera pans out and up the paper to show the words CONTRACT TERMINATION and up to show a man, sitting opposite him in a chair wearing a suit and tie. The boss mouths the words "im sorry mate but its for the best", he bends down, picks up a cardboard box of things and slides it across the table. Hands come out and pick up the box, the camera goes backwards and up, the camera turns to look at the door (the box is still in shot).
-- if we need to fill time we could do a shot of him walking down the corridor, with peoples reactions, to the door to exit the building ---
A shot of a front door to a house will fade in, while the previous shot fades out (graphic match). A hand reaches out and trys to turn the key in the lock, it clearly doesnt work. the camera turns to show a shot of the path, then turns to view the house again, it zooms in on an upstairs window where the ex wife is shown looking at him, another man then appears next to her and they step away from the window. the camera zooms out of the window and pans down to show an open hand holding the ring, the hand throws it into a flower bed, the camera zooms into the flower.
a shot of a flower fades in as the previous shot fades out (graphic match). the camera zooms out and up to show a shot of a hill at sunset, the camera is walked up the hill and sits on the bench, there is then a shot of the horizon. the camera pans down and there is a bottle of whisky in one hand, he unscrews the bottle and lifts the bottle (gives the impression of drinking). the bottle comes back into shot, half empty.
there is a straight cut, to a very zoomed in shot of the man, the camera zooms out all the way to reveal the man laying on the floor next to the bench.

-- we did discuss possibly adding a montage here of quick cut shots of what happens to him this night, with shots of the important events of the day eg. the ring in his hand, his wife and another man, the words contract termination on paper. ---

Production Diary 6

Day 6: 23/09/2011

Today we had 2 lessons, Period 1:
We started working out the timings for the song:

Period 3:
We decided to roughly plan out the main storyline of the video and condense it into scenes, here is a rough draft:

We also discussed certain things to do with each scene, for example the flashback where he loses his wife, she was initially going to be a girlfriend but we decided that this might of been hard to film as the scene would be in silence, therefore we decided that if it was his wife, we could use a shot of her throwing her ring at him as a symbolic ending of the relationship.
The flashback of him losing his house was also initially supposed to be him bankrupt, but after toying with ideas of a gambling addiction (too hard to film as we are not 18 and would not be able to film in a casino), him handing over wads of cash (would be too repetitive) and him checking his bank balance (too boring, wouldn’t engage the audience) we decided that it would be much easier and would look more effective if he was to lose his house/ his ex wife has changed the locks and he sees her in the upstairs window with another man.

Production Diary 5

Day 5: 22/09/2011

As a group we decided to narrow down our song choices and decide which would be the best to use for our music video, to do this we decided to create a pros and cons list for each of the 4 contenders.
Ed Sheeran - Drunk
Pro's:
- Engaging story line.
- Looks creative with a variety of shots
- makes an impact.
- People will want to watch the whole thing.
Cons:
- the other group didn’t like the song.
- With a variety of different shots and locations it could be complicated to shoot.
- We want the main shots to be shot in London, could be difficult to repeat shots.

Pegasus Bridge - Skinny
Pro's:
- other group liked the song
- would be easy to shoot
Cons:
- limited, only certain locations could be used
- could become repetitive
- not as engaging
- if performance was included we would need to find a band that would be willing to do it.
- could look amateur

Lucy Rose - Bikes
Pro's:
- would look really fun and creative
- fun to shoot
Cons:
- hard to repeat shots/do a second take
- logistics of getting everyone to do what you want
- filming running shots and on bikes, fluidly, would be difficult because we don’t have the technology.
- very weather dependant, would only look good on a sunny day

Express yourself - S.O.U.L
Pro's:
- would look really effective and fits with the song perfectly
- fun to shoot
Cons:
- might need extras to pose as strangers
- very dependent on the public
- the logistics of getting everyone in the right place and doing the right thing is virtually impossible.
- We would need stranger’s permission to film them.

In the end, weighing up all the possibilities, we have chosen ED SHEERAN - DRUNK

3 CD Covers Analysis

In this essay I am going to briefly analyse three CD covers and then choose one I will focus on and write about it in more depth. The three CD’s I have chosen are, Example “Playing in the Shadows”, Red Hot Chili Peppers “I’m With You” and David Guetta “Nothing But The Beat”. Examples genre of music is Hip Hop, Grime and Electro house; from the CD cover this isn’t easily recognisable as this. On the CD cover there isn’t really much that gives the genre away it is just a picture of Elliot Gleave on the front.  Red Hot Chili Peppers album “I’m With You” is even harder to find the genre of. Red Hot Chili Peppers genre of music is funk rock, there album covers doesn’t give the audience the sense that this is anything to do with the genre, all that is displayed is a picture of a fly on a tablet even the name of the artist and song are very small and hidden. For a rock band you would expect things like dark colours, guitars etc on the front but this one is created and displayed in the form of art that doesn’t have a real meaning but is open to interpretation. Finally the last album by AC DC is called “Let There Be Rock” the genres of AC DC include hard rock, heavy metal, rock n roll. From the genre you would expect again for the cover to display some of the stereotypical instruments and be fairly dark, AC DC’s album cover has got all these conventions you would expect from that genre of music it includes all the basic things of heavy metal and rock n roll. As well as that the image also links in with the album name, “let there be rock” if from the religious saying “let there be light” they have managed to show the album image in a religious but rock way.
The CD I am going to choose to analyse more in depth is going to be Example “Playing In The Shadows”. They cover has been created in a very clever way, the album is called “Playing in the shadows” and Example is standing there with one half of him in the shadows and the other half outside the shadow which links in with the name of the album. Most of the cover has been made in very dull colours of different shades of black and white to create the shadow effect, then by making the album this colour they have been able to emphasis “Example” (stage name) in yellow being the brightest possible colour compared to black which grabs the audience’s attention first when they notice the cover. I believe they have done this because even though Example is a well known artist they still want the audience to walk past and notice it’s an album made by him which also explains why he has put an image of him on the front as well. The image of Example takes up the whole album cover as it does relate to the title of the album, “example” is written across his lower neck so it isn’t too low and can’t be seen but low enough it doesn’t cover his face. The size of the “example” isn’t as big as it could be but due to the fact it is in yellow box compared to a black background it is the most eye catching thing so the font doesn’t need to be as big. Then “playing in the shadows” is below “example” in a really small sized font but also stands out as its in white but doesn’t the emphasis away from “example”.  The title of the album doesn’t really link in with his genre but example described the album as darker than previous ones, possibly the reason he decided to do the artwork like it is and call it “playing in the shadows”. I think the purpose of calling it that does suggest about his album now being darker and more different than his previous albums. However someone who didn’t know example probably wouldn’t be able to identify the genre from the album cover.
The image on the front takes up the whole album cover; the image is of the artist John Gleave (example) I believe they have done this to try and inform and attract potential customers to the CD. Obviously people who like example will be able to notice this CD much easier due to the fact that it’s got him on the front, whereas someone who might not know example as well still might be attracted to the CD from its unique and striking image on the front. The facial expression of the artist is very serious, this adds to the effect could relate to the fact that Elliot said this CD was going to be darker and possibly more serious than some of his other CD’s. His facial expression also ties in with the genre of music the CD is going to contain because it’s electro house, grime, dubstep it isn’t supposed to be funny, or amusing its meant to be serious which suggests why the artist has a serious expression on his face. The image is a mid close up, they have taken the photo up to the top of his arm but most of the image is focused on the face, this could be due to the point that they want to try and advertise the CD as best as they can by actually including the artist on the front. The image is completely in the centre of the cover and the angle of the shot is of eye angle it has been positioned this way so they can use the shadow more effectively if it is equal on both sides, this way he can be half in the shadow and half out and play with the title of the album “Playing In The Shadows”. The clothes the artist is wearing are very basic this is so the emphasis isn’t taken away from the image, if there was a striking logo or patterns on his clothes the primary image might not grab the attention of the audience in the way it’s supposed to. The hair on the artist has been done to make him look very smart, casual and well presented, having his hair like this helps recognise the e.g. the stereotypical rock album artist might have very long scruffy hair, where a stereotypical dubstep, hip hop and electro house artist looks much more well presented similar to this one.  The background colours are black and white the same sort of colours as a shadow would be, on the face they have then swapped the colours around so it is easier for the effect to be seen as they are on contrasted colours. The only bit of iconography is that on the front of all his albums they have always displayed the world “example” on the front; however the style every time has been changed.
The back of the CD again is very effective and continues the whole “playing in the shadows” theme which makes the whole CD becoming very unique and different also very attractive and eye catching to the audience. The image on the front is different from the one on the back, in this image Example is mostly in the shadows but in the light are his eyes this again is very effective it seems that he has almost disappeared but then by having his eyes in the light shows he is still there “playing in the shadows” as the album title suggests. The colour on the background is completely white this time this is because most of the image on the front is dark and by having a light background allows the audience to easily see what they have tried to do with the artwork. They have used the same type of shot but this time been a bit closer up on the face as the emphasis is more on the eyes from where you can see him coming out of the shadow. It is very similar to the image at the front t help tie in with the genre. The track listing on the back is surprisingly small compared to some album covers, on the back it seems they have tried to emphasis the image on the back and due to image being so big the only place they could really put the writing was at the bottom. It all helps to sell the CD by playing on the theme by calling it “Playing In The Shadows” everything on the album case is all to do with the name of the album making it very effective.
The spine of the CD is quite basic compared to the rest of album cover however they do still stick to the same house style all over. The biggest problem I thought with the spine is that the writing on it isn’t big enough and doesn’t stand out enough. For example if just the spine was showing on a shelf then the customer is going to really struggle to spot it. It’s a very basic on the CD it is plain white with tiny black writing in the middle reading “Example Playing In The Shadows”. So compared to the rest of the CD it doesn’t seem as much work has gone into the spine. Even though it has been presented this way they have continued things like house style throughout and it actually works quite effectively.
Overall I feel that the CD cover front and back are very good, they are unique and different but if focused on them are very clever as well. I feel the spine is still quite effective but a bit more work could have possibly been done to make it more appealing. However I believe it serves its purpose of attracting customers very well. The image of example is used on the front and back so it clear to people who’s CD it is, they have also used the artists name and album name several times around the CD cover advertising the name of him but also the name of the CD very well on numerous occasions. Compared to most of his album covers I personally think this is the most effective purely for the fact they have created the album art work and edited the images to match the name of the album which I find very clever and appealing. There are mixed decisions on whether the size of album covers are better than the size of records. The standard size of a CD is 14cm wide, 12.5cm long and around 1cm in depth. Whereas a record was 12" and the cover was just big enough to fit the record in. So CD artwork was much smaller than record artwork, this obviously aloud much more artwork to be added compared to a CD album. With a record they could potentially spend more money on jazzing it up and making it more "art" this could be seen as unfair on some artist and music companies that don't have the money to spend, however a music company/artist with more money to spend on it and make it much more attractive than people that couldn't sound as much money on it. CD covers due to the size mean this doesn't happen anymore because people are so limited to the size they can work on. A lot of companies now use quite random but striking artwork an example being the red hot chili peppers album (at the top of the page) this is very random and quite simple but so effective.
